  • 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

  • One mandatory skills weekend on Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Objectives:

  1. Introduce concepts of emergency care and review the well-being of the EMT

  2. Discuss medical, legal, and ethical aspects of emergency medical services

  3. Describe effective communication skills and documentation techniques

  4. Review medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, and life span development

  5. Provide competent assessment skills, including vital signs, for a medical, trauma, pediatric, and special population.

  6. Introduce and apply critical thinking skills

  7. Provide effective CPR skills and airway management in emergent situations

  8. Demonstrate proper lifting and moving techniques

  9. Review and understand general pharmacology

  10. Identify and provide basic care for emergencies such as:

    1. Respiratory

    2. Cardiac

    3. Abdominal

    4. Diabetic

    5. Allergic Reactions/Poisonings

    6. Behavioral

    7. OB/GYN

    8. Geriatrics

    9. Pediatrics

    10. Trauma

  11. Provide awareness of hazardous materials, terrorism, and highway and street safety

  12. Demonstration of effective extrication techniques

  13. Provide general guidelines for incident management of a Mass Casualty Incident

Requirements:

  • Participation in lecture, skills labs, clinical time, and Skills Camps.

  • Each student will be required to provide ten documented patient assessments prior to the completion of the program.

Evaluation: Written tests and skill competency evaluation (practical)
