Negative COVID-19 Viral Swab - FAQs

Explain My Results

What does it mean that my lab result is negative?

Your negative COVID-19 viral swab test means that you were not infectious with COVID-19 at the time of testing.

My COVID-19 swab was negative. What should I do to protect myself and others from future infection?

As you return to work and other activities, the CDC recommends that you continue to wear a face mask, wash your hands often, and practice social distancing.

Multiple Family Members Using the Same Cellphone

Whose result is this? Mine or my family members?

We have sent this text message to the phone number listed in the patient’s medical chart. If multiple patients have the same phone number listed, please create individual AIM Laboratory accounts for immediate notification of each patient’s test results. While you will need separate user names, you may use the same email address for as many family members as you’d like.

What Do I Do Next?

I am still experiencing symptoms. What should I do?

We are happy to reevaluate you at TAUC if your symptoms persist or worsen.

Can I return from quarantine or go back to work?

For non-COVID-19 viral symptoms, people traditionally return to work or school once fever-free for 24 hours. Please check with your employer for workplace-specific guidelines.

Someone I live with tested positive for COVID-19. What should I do?

If a household member tests positive, everyone else in the household should isolate per the CDC guidelines, regardless if they tested negative. If you develop symptoms during the quarantine it is recommended that you restart the isolation period from the first day of symptoms. It is best to limit exposure to other members of the household as much as possible. Maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet and wear a mask if sharing the same common area is unavoidable.
